Description:
- This is the Medical Information Resources portion of the TIF Training Curriculum. Its purpose is to increase Internet literacy and awareness of medical information resources of TIF participants. These courses have been created by librarians at the UTHSCSA Library.
Learning Objectives:
- Students will be able to do the following after completing the Medical Information Resources course:
- Understand the basic structure, functioning, and components of the Internet.
- Understand the differences between Internet Service Providers and web browsers.
- Perform simple searches using web search engines.
- Understand the differences between search engines and databases, such as MEDLINE.
- Become familiar with PubMed, MDConsult, and Internet resources exhibited in the Training Modules.
- Perform a simple search in MEDLINE on PubMed using MeSH headings.
- Retrieve relevant citations for topics in the medical literature.
- Give one reason for the importance of MeSH headings.
- Identify and be able to access and use at least two web resources for their area of practice or interest.
- Identify and be able to access and use at least two web resources for patient education materials.
