Description:

This lecture will outline the new technological and pharmacologic advances related to diabetes in effort to inform and keep health care professionals abreast of new and alternative methods that can serve to improve the outcomes of their patients with diabetes. The latest in monitoring, oral agents, insulins, lancing devices, and insulin pump technology are some examples of new advances in diabetes management that will be highlighted in this program.

Learning Objectives:

After taking this course participants will be able to:
  1. Discuss the new medications associated with the treatment of diabetes and how they relate to all aspects of the pathogenesis of the disease and directly improve the status of the patient.
  2. Outline the new technological devices that will enhance adherance and the analysis of the management of the patient with diabetes and thereby improve the patient’s outcome.

The UTHSCSA, School of Nursing is approved as a provider of continuing education in nursing by the Texas Nurses Association, which is accredited as a approver of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. This approval meets Type II criteria for mandatory continuing education requirement toward relicensure as established by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.

In order to receive the 1.4 CE credits associated with this course, you must complete the posttest and score 70% or higher. You will be given 3 chances.
